1st Step Recovery – 5th Street is a women-only treatment center in Louisville, KY, helping those receiving Kentucky Medicaid on their journeys to lasting wellness and resilience. 1st Step offers residential and outpatient care for co-occurring substance use and serious mental illness (SMI). This DOC-approved program helps women on probation or parole earn good time credit upon completion, supporting lasting recovery and second chances. Their approach combines structure with compassion. Clients receive care through individual and group counseling, trauma therapy, peer support, and 12-Step groups. These therapies help women build healthy habits, understand their triggers, and grow emotionally. The goal is long-term healing, emotional stability, and readiness for life beyond treatment. Women in the residential program live in a safe, women-only home with shared or private rooms and access to clean bathrooms. Nutritious meals are provided daily. The facility includes indoor gathering spaces and outdoor areas for fresh air and relaxation. Staff can assist with transportation, helping each woman get the support she needs to recover.
